Failed Upgrades

We are getting slightly different results with up2date.

We have a daily job that launches up2date at 4:15 GMT.
It works reasonably well most often.

Two failures have been recorded in /var/log/up2date.1:
a.

b.  [Sat Feb 21 04:15:12 2004] up2date availablePackageList from network

The system locked up.  In closer look, I found out kernel-2.4.22-1.2174 is
properly mounted, but not
kernel-smp-2.4.22-1.2174.

I think I shall try a different start time to tackle problem a, but I
suspect there is a bug
that triggers problem b.

In fact, this is the second time it happens. The last time was on 11 Feb for
kernel-smp-2.4.22-1.2166.

Upgrading via up2date has worked pretty well for me since it first became
available back in some earlier version of RedHat.

I've used Fedora-Core since it first became available and up2date has worked
well until recently. Now almost every upgrade fails for broken dependencies.

Is there some big footnote that I have missed that would let me know what is
going on with up2date?
