gnuplot 3.8k.1 / gd library

Compiling gnuplot fails because of gd library although
the library is correctly installed and found by
configure.

configure reports:

checking png.h usability... yes

checking gd.h usability... yes
checking gd.h presence... yes

checking for gdImagePng in -lgd... yes
checking for pdflib-config...
/usr/local/bin/pdflib-config

checking pdflib.h presence... yes

Although while compiling the following error messages
come around:
