I've seen up2date hang while trying to resolve dependencies
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=111041).  The
workaround is to use Yum or to install dependencies by hand.

I also found a hang when re-fetching an RPM from an apt repo
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=111032).

There are some other bugzilla reports of hangs with up2date as well.

Could you be seeing one of these?
