~From my notes:
JAVA - HOWTO make globally accessible:
root]# edit /etc/profile:
JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01
PATH=/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01/bin:$PATH
# REM: You may need to change the j2re1.4.2_01 to the version number
which you have
downloaded. Once you have edited and saved the changes, you ought to be
able to open a console and type: java *or* java -fullversion. This
should return output such as this:
]$ java
Usage: java [-options] class [args...]
~ (to execute a class)
~ or java [-options] -jar jarfile [args...]
~ (to execute a jar file)
where options include:
~ --------------------------------(more output edited for brevity)
- -----------
]$ java -fullversion
java full version "1.4.2_02-b03"
HTH & cheers,
Elton ;-)
