As I said in reply to linux4life:
1. Comment out "up2date default"
2. make sure you have something like this in your sources:
yum fedora-core-1
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/1/i386/os
#yum updates-released
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/1/i386
#yum updates-testing
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/testing/1/i386
(only three lines, not 6)
Better use a mirror near you, download.fedora.redhat.com is very busy,
and this sometimes causes up2date to hang.
