pdftotext problems on FC1

The famous speaker who no one had heard of said:

OK, I guess.  But that doesn't explain why the same file can be converted on
RH9 but not on FC1.  This file is exactly the same file in both cases.  It comes
from the same CD in both cases.  Yet it converts on RH9 but not on FC1.
