I guess it's appropriate to repost my grub.conf:
#boot=/dev/hda
default=0
timeout=10
splashimage=(hd0,1)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title Fedora Core (2.4.22-1.2149.nptl)
root (hd0,1)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2149.nptl ro root=LABEL=/ hdd=ide-scsi
rhgb
initrd /initrd-2.4.22-1.2149.nptl.img
title Windows XP
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
and fdisk -l:
# fdisk -l
Disk /dev/hda: 40.0 GB, 40020664320 bytes

I'm yet to try removing 'rhgb' from grub.conf and seeing if the messages
go away on bootup.
