Your question is impossible to answer without knowing what your needs
are. In my isolated situation, where I was running RH9 on a Compaq
Armada laptop, it was a fantastic upgrade. The nptl patches have made
my desktop experience much, much faster.
What is your definition of a "dead-end" operating system? SCO?
Contrary to what they might have you believe, Linux is NOT SCO. ;-)
