Trying to kill a process that just won't die...

Ok:

[root at penguin root]# strace -p 11952
Process 11952 attached - interrupt to quit

Didn't show anything and then I had a hard time killing strace but I did
do it.

Then:

[root at penguin root]# gdb /bin/tar 11952
GNU gdb Red Hat Linux (5.3.90-0.20030710.41rh)

This GDB was configured as "i386-redhat-linux-gnu"...
(no debugging symbols found)...Using host libthread_db library
"/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1".

Attaching to program: /bin/tar, process 11952

...then nothing...
