I have no issues with xine at all, this is what i did: 

Install: xine-lib-1.0.0-0.lvn.0.22.rc3a.1
totem-0.99.8-0.lvn.3.1 (Gnome frontend)
kaffeine-0.4.1-0.lvn.1.1.i386.rpm (KDE frontend)
w32codec-1.0-7.at.i386.rpm (for playing Windoze Media)
libdvdplay-1.0.1-0.lvn.2.1.i386.rpm
libdvdcss-1.2.8-0.lvn.4.1.i386.rpm 
libdvdread-0.9.4-0.lvn.1.1.i386.rpm
libdvdread-0.9.4-0.lvn.1.1.i386.rpm

Al packages are available at rpm.livna.org and
atrpms.physik.fu-berlin.de (w32codec). Freshrpms.net also has some of
them (the libdvd*), but I did not try them yet.

I hope you benefit from this: There's no need to build the packages
yourself, just use yum or apt to get & install them. No need for ANY
further configuration.
