Try booting from CD into rescue mode and see if the linux partitons will
mount. That way you will know if they are still there. Once mounted in
rescue mode you change your inittab default runlevel to 3, that way you won't
have to mess with it in grub. Next, chroot to /mnt/sysimage (this may not be
the correct syntax) and run grub-install.
