Perhaps /var/log/xferlog is there, but I think it only shows transfers
(not sure if more info should show up in vsftpd.log)

in vsftpd.conf see:

xferlog_enable=YES
xferlog_std_format=YES

and maybe:
dual_log_enable
or
syslog_enable

would help.
