My understanding matches yours Rui... the patents are about long filenames 
being supported by crapping over multiple sequential 8.3 filename slots IIRC.  
What a joke subject for a patent.

MSFT have indicated thus far that they are only asking for royalties from OEMs 
which embed this support.  Its an interesting question that Redhat have 
probably already asked their lawyers as to if VFAT in Linux should be yanked.
