Don't know if i understand what you mean, but here is how i
usually do:

//machinename/sharename      /mnt/sharename           smbfs   
	noauto,owner,rw,credentials=/home/ian/.smb   0 0

As you can see also as hint in some samba documentation or reading 
archives, the hidden files .smb (or whateer the name) simply
contains your username and password. Should be just a little more 
secure, as it is in your home and not in /etc.
