I would use SSH except I am not allow to install software on my work
computer that is not approved by my company, freeware or not.

As for finger, I was only playing around with it and found that it is not
working either.

And I am aware of the xinet.d files and the telnet file listed there is
pretty much greek to me. Anyone able to translate the file or atleast help
me understand it? Here is the contents of said file:

[root at Raisor root]# cat /etc/xinetd.d/telnet
# default: on
# description: The telnet server serves telnet sessions; it uses \
# unencrypted username/password pairs for authentication.
service telnet
{
        disable = no
        flags           = REUSE
        socket_type     = stream
        wait            = no
        user            = root
        server          = /usr/sbin/in.telnetd
        log_on_failure  += USERID
}
