problems with the ln command

Fons,

I'm not quite sure where your symlink should point to, but
the general usage is:
ln -s source target

i.e. if you have
/data/mydir
and you want a symlink of mydir in /otherdata do this:
# ln -s /data/mydir /otherdata/mydir
