Virtual Terminal Resolution

How can I change the resolution of the virtual terminals in Fedora 2?  
I've tried setting the "vga=794" kernel parameter, but the vt resolution 
gets reset during initialization!  I hate having a tiny 80x25 terminal 
-- Mandrake has spoiled me with nice big 1280x1024 framebuffer 
terminals.  It sure makes administration easier, boy howdy.
