FC1 upgrade from rh8, but running 2.6.7 kernels

Its an RH8 system, upgraded to FC1, but since I was already running 
2.6.x kernels well before that, yum has had orders to exclude kernel*
Currently running 2.6.7-mm7

For the first 2 commands, I get very similar if not exactly the same 
results:

[root at coyote linux-2.6.7-mm7]# rpm -q yum python libxml2-python
yum-2.0.7-2.fc.fr
python-2.2.3-7
libxml2-python-2.6.6-3
[root at coyote linux-2.6.7-mm7]# rpm -qV yum python libxml2-python
S.5....T c /etc/yum.conf

But the last one is still trying to fill the bash history scrollback 
(10 megs on this system IIRC) to the breaking point.  Best I append a 
'|grep yum' to cut down the noise I think.  However, the first 
invocation is still running 10 minutes later...  Tommorrow maybe?

?? Is that now a wrong version of yum for an FC1 system?
If so, its strange as its been running that version for at least a 
month, flawlessly till now.

/me scratches head and heads to take a nap as I have to work my one 
night a week tonight, starting about 2:30 am in the morning.  And its 
21:07 now.

Yeah, I'm supposed to be retired, but nobody knows that 45 year old GE 
tv transmitter like me in this neck of the woods.  Hell, not many 
still remember how vacuum tubes work!  So I guess I have a job and 
insurance till I fall over.  Kinda gives me a warm fuzzy feeling at 
times.  Then again, when the telly rings and its "hey Gene, what do I 
do now?", I swear at it, not very quietly while I'm pulling on some 
clothes and heading for the mountain at whatever time it is...
I'm a dying breed, but not just yet, at 69 I'm not done living and 
still have lots of things to do.

BTW, many thanks for the troubleshooting suggestions.  I appreciate 
it, a lot!
