FC2 Gnome broken

I am sure this has been discussed before but I have only recently joined
the list and cannot find the answer on the web.

The last time I upgraded my FC2 final system it broke GNome for all
users except root user.  I much prefer GNome o KDE so would like ot get
it back if possible but don't know how.

I hvae searched the web and seen discussions on Xorg vs XFree86 but
can't seem to get things happening on my machine.

any help would be appreciated.
