APIC error on cpu0 : 04(04)

Hello,

I have installed fedora core 1 on my computer and I can't get smp working.

The kernel is the original (2.4.22) and if I start without smp, the 
system starts and works perfectly (with only 1 cpu).
But if I  try to start the system with smp support, I only get the 
following error message : "APIC error on cpu0 : 04(04)".

The motherboard is an ASUS A7M266-D with 2 Athlon MP 2800++. The bios 
has already been updated and everything looks good.

Can someone help me make it work ?
