Well I hope that works for you. In my case I found I could let power
management do the screen blanking with the old kernel, just as long as
the screen saver was completely disabled. And I'm not at all sure that
all the screen savers I had the problem with were actually OGL... 

Funny thing is, while I can't really prove it, I suspect that when I let
yum update my system, (including installing the vmlinuz-2.6.6-1.435
kernel), some of the screen savers appear to have been removed? At least I
couldn't find some of the ones I had used previously, Though to be honest
I hadn't paid any attention to their names, I simply kept trying one after
another till I found one I liked... (and now memory fades so that I'm not
sure I'd recognize them if I saw them)
