Convert CDIR notation to IP range

the initscripts package comes with a nifty tool called ipcalc.

So for you example above,

   ipcalc -b -n 192.168.0.0/24

gives

   BROADCAST=192.168.0.255
   NETWORK=192.168.0.0

which tells me that the usable range is 192.168.0.1 - > 192.168.0.254

whala!
