FC2 and DPMS

But I actually want DPMS enabled. I like my monitor to switch off when not
in use.

If I remember rightly, I think I found that without the DPMS option the
screen still blanked, but without setting the monitor to standby.

Anyway there's clearly a bug somewhere, but I wish I knew where!
