can't use my scanner as user

This has been discussed before, you may want to search the archives...

But from what I remember, somebody said there was a bug...

That causes a restrictive permission setting to occur every time you
boot. If you don't want to fiddle with unpluging and replugging your
scanner you might try a root command workaround.

First you need to find out exactly where your scanner is being mounted.
This was, I think, described in a previous message but I forgot the details.
(Actually I think I just poked around with mc till I found it...)
In my case, my usb scanner was being mounted as /proc/bus/usb/001/002
So _FOR_MY_SCANNER_ the root command to fix this was:

chmod 666 /proc/bus/usb/001/002

Which I put in a one line script in /root/bin/fixscan.

Since I usually have something to do as root in between booting and
needing the scanner anyway, my problem is solved by remembering to type:

# fixscan

I only need to do this once after every reboot. 

But I suppose it could be added to some start up script. Though I'm not
really sure how to do that. Perhaps someone who plays with such scripts
can recommend a good place to insert this so that the OP won't have to
remember to fix it as root after every boot????
