No permissions on home folder?

i did it as root.

ls -al /home:

[root at sima home]# ls -al /home
total 12
drwxr-xr-x   3 root   root   4096 Jun 14 11:22 .
drwxr-xr-x  25 root   root   4096 Jun 17 13:14 ..
drwxr-x---  38 gerald gerald 4096 Jun 17 13:20 gerald

quite normal, i think.
