What you are looking for is 'compat-gcc' which is probably already installed
on your FC1 box - and use it with 'make CC=gcc296'
[asterix]: rpm -qf /usr/bin/gcc296
compat-gcc-7.3-2.96.118
[asterix]: cat /etc/fedora-release
