Can't copy files in *.dat form VCD

You can play *.dat files - not off VCD - but if you copy them in Windows 
to a medium ( e.g.,hard-disk )
and then open in Xine or Mplayer. I am told there is a tool for that in 
Linux too. Not tried yet.

Your version of Xine may be broken. It seems to keep breaking always.
