easytag and file permissions

Yesterday I installed EasyTag <http://easytag.sourceforge.net/>
from freshrpms using yum.  I have a windows vfat drive which
I keep all my oggs and mp3s on.  This is set up so that root
is the owner and my normal account is in the group.

EasyTag, run from the gnome toolbar in my normal account, can
save changes to read only files, and changes them to read/write.
I have to su to change them back.  How can it do this, and how
do I install it so that it can't?
