Rhythmbox: "could not pause playback"...

I have got the same error message on two machines at home, one using an
on board sound card of a laptop, the other a fairly cheep sound card in
a desktop.

I can get audio working when using XMMS and other applications, it's
just the Rythmbox that appears to be causing a problem.

I have run rythmbox with the -d (debug) command and got the output
below.

I have posted to the rythmbox dev list, and got no reply after a week or
so.
