Upgraded to FC 2 via apt-get and lost Gnome panels

I ran apt-get to bring my system up to date.  Afterwards, all the gnome
panels on the "start menu" are not displayed. They were there under FC1 and
are still shown if I log in via KDE.
 
I would prefer to use Gnome--how can I correct?
