John,
Sounds like you have made some real progress. My only other thought is
to see if there is any correlation between installation success and
system temps...with a small form factor system, watching temps may be
fairly critical. In particular, if you added a hard drive to the stock
configuration, I would be sure it wasn't adding excessive heat to the
total. I have a newer 2/3 height Maxtor 40 gb drive that runs hotter
than a firecracker...but admittedly I worry excessively about temps as
it is often a sultry 80F here in the office...Florida in the summertime.
