How much memory and swap space is there on this system?

The Gimp can use piles of virtual memory and as a side effect cause
the X server to get big as well. run "free" in a loop or "top" in a
small font window and watch things.

Since it is easy to add swap files to increase the total set of
virtual memory pages do some homework on how (see swapon).
