You might want to use the drivers from Matrox' website with the G550.
DVI-out works here with the normal G550 drivers from XFree, but
sometimes the monitor loses the signal from the card. Using the mga_hal
from the above drivers, everything works fine.

You shouldn't have to modify your XF86Config for that.
