GDM fails to start

Hello all,

I am having problems getting getting GDM to start after upgrading to GTK
2.4. After the graphical boot, I get an error saying "It seems that
there is already an X server running on display:0. Should I try another
one?" Selecting yes or no has no effect.

I can choose another console, login and startx.

Any help will be greatly appreciated...
