What? Are you kidding? I've recompiled X, KDE and It's damn fast.
Memory optimization solved building custom kernel.
Now I have almost ZERO swap with 512MB after one day work.
I recommend all rebuilding kernel, X, and graphic client
with CFLAGS appropriate to your arch/processor type.
