Random core dumps in home directory

By default no core dump files will be produced by the system. That is
the default setting of Fedora:

$ grep -nr ulimit /etc/*
/etc/init.d/functions:138:      ulimit -S -c 0 >/dev/null 2>&1
/etc/profile:28:ulimit -S -c 0 > /dev/null 2>&1

So you did change that "ulimit -c 0" setting, maybe not in the system
files but in ~/.bash_profile or ~/.bashrc? If you want to know what was
core dumping you will have to inspect the dump file.
