alert notification tool

However, RHN and the associated email notifications aren't available on
Fedora Core.  They are only provided for Red Hat Enterprise Linux. 
Fedora Core update notifications are sent to subscribers of
fedora-announce-list.  The notification icon simply serves as a visual
notification.
