Seeing files on a Sony memory stick from Digital handycam

I went to the /etc/updfstab.conf.default and found
that there was this statement included.  Should I make
the change from:
device memstick {
    partition 1
    match   hd MSC
}
to what was suggested and will that in and of itself
make the memory stick visible and usable?
