In fact, you will almost certainly have to use an install CD (either
disc1 or boot.iso) when upgrading from FC1 to FC2.  Largely because
system needs to be running Linux 2.6 for all the install scripts to
work.  Anaconda also has some logic to handle package ordering
problems.  Here's a thread which talks about some of the issues of why
YUM won't do an "online" dist-upgrade from FC1 to FC2:

But, as long as you've not hacked much on your FC1 installation you can
probably upgrade to FC2 using the CD without too many troubles.
