Here's mine. MY CD "just works" without me doing any fiddling.

$ dmesg | grep CD
hdc: LITE-ON LTR-52327S, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

BTW, this LITE-ON is a nice unit and pretty cheap. I got it for about 50
CDN bucks. Does CD-Text, too.
