Howto get rid of old kernels

man yum --> remove
man rpm --> erase

And yes, the grub menu entries will leave your system too, once you
removed/erased the old kernel(s). Be aware that you must pass the tools
the specific package name like i.e. "kernel-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl".
