Eric Diamond,

If you look carefully at my email, I had several suggestions with good
and bad point about them all. I was not suggesting that we start yet
another list. I believe my starting comments were "Heaven forbid,"...

I agree starting multiple lists for each release would only cause more
confusion. We often get questions that start out "It worked before ...
but now is broken? What happened to ...?" etc. All without more
information like, "I upgraded the kernel / apache ..." etc. Or "I
changed my network card / modem ...".

Sometimes it gets to the point of playing a game of 20 questions....

Maybe we need to come up with a standard amount of background
information like bugzilla to be able to help some people with specific
questions about bind, apache, kernel, etc. and not have to play guessing
games or overwhelm people with our questions about FC1 or FC2, which
version of apache, kernel etc.

The problem with all our suggestions, is that none of them are actually
practical; because of the human factor involved throws randomness into
the picture. So, how do we answer someone who says "My machine will not
~ boot?" without the important information about the kernel version, FC
version, etc.

Then, how far do we take this. If we request more information like the
above, we may be pushing a first time member to the list away from
support and trying to answer the question with a multitude of questions
instead of helping them.

Thanks,
James
