No sound: "Sorry, no mixer elements and/or devices found"

Hi Paul,

thanx a lot for replying. Still I am having this odd problem:

1) Gnome sounds are available
2) alsamixer shows all channels "ON", i.e. not muted
3) Here is output of my /sbin/lsmod:

produces the same error message as below ....

Do you have any other suggestion to try?
