Starting VNC from rc.local.

I'm trying to start VNC through rc.local, but, the same command I used in
core 1 no longer seems to work in core 3... Here is what I am putting into
rc.local:

su username -c "vncserver -geometry 800x600 -depth 16 :1"

Like I said, that worked in core 1.. but since installing core 3, it
fails. If I execute that from the command line as root, it works fine.
Not sure if the rc.local stuff is logged anywhere, so I can't tell exactly
why its failing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
