This was actually "rpm -Uvh ..." since mozilla-nss/i386 and
mozilla-nspr/i386 was already installed from the x86_64 tree.

Hm. I upgraded several packages with up2date, and now the command-line
rpm again works as expected. The packages I updated were:
bash
brltty
cvs
gd
gd-devel
gd-progs
gnumeric
gnumeric-devel
hotplug
initscripts
ipsec-tools
iptables
iptables-devel
iptables-ipv6
libselinux
libselinux-devel
libxml2
libxml2-devel
policycoreutils
postfix
postfix-pflogsumm
shadow-utils
slang
slang-devel
system-config-users
udev
wireless-tools
words
zip
Could it be that the selinux and policycoreutils fixed this?
