Yum --enablerepo

Hi,
     I thought the option 'enable=0' in /etc/yum.repo.d disabled its
selection in 'yum update' or such unless you used '--enablerepo=< [repo] >
I set up repos some with 'enable-0' some 'enable=1' and it didn't make any
difference what so ever all the repos listed updated,is this expected if so
how do seperate repos.
