FC3, early during install, colour scheme suddenly goes berserk

  i'm doing an NFS install on a mediocre dell latitude laptop, first
part of install going nicely, get the standard blue background FC
screen, "Welcome to Fedora Core", press "Next", and suddenly the
colour scheme goes a little nutty -- green, blue and red psychedelic
pattern at top of screen, and rest of screen looks like what you'd
expect if you were working with a CRT and the RGB guns suddenly
weren't quite synced.

  it's still perfectly legible, so i can continue the install.  but
it's still a bit odd if you weren't expecting it.
