Could you try and stick with bottom posting especially as this may end
up getting quite long winded and semi technical...

How are you trying to access the share on Window XP?

Start -> Run -> \\<server name>
Start -> Run -> \\<server name>\<share name>
Start -> Run -> \\<server IP address>\

On the linux machine can you run smbclient -L to get a list of the
shares and make sure they ARE published.

Can you browse the shares localy?

it could be a firewall issue, iptables -nL (I think) to get a list of
active iptable rules.

I think that is some thing to go on, oh and you may want to do the above
in reverse order :)
