FC3 Install fails immediately

I just downloaded the new FC3 release and tried to install it from
CD on a system which has been running FC3 Test 1 successfully.
At the point where the installer tries to start X, it hung hard
requiring a complete powerdown to clear the monitor. I repeated this several
times, then switched to a text mode install. I got a bit further, but
then began getting "ASSERT" error messages from a module named
dis_dos.c function probe_partition_for_geom. After trying
various responses I finally got to disk druid, which complained
about the partition table on /dev/hda. The only option offered
was a complete reapartitioning, which I definitely didn't want.

Is there a less drastic way to repair whatever is wrong with the
partition table? Windows boots up fine from /dev/hda1, and I have
no trouble mounting partitions from it under FC3T1.

Any help would be appreciated!!
