FC3 Installer panics on old box...

I thought I would install FC3 on an old box (366 Celeron) that currently 
has FC2 on it.  The install CD is attempting to start linux  and gets to 
the sbin/loader line then panics printing out a heap of lines ending with:

[<...>] start_kernel +0x216/0x219
Code: e8 ...... (lots of hex)
<0>kernel panic - not syncing: fatal exception ...

Any thoughts as to what might be causing this or is this machine just 
getting too old to use for this sorta stuff and I should be happy with FC2?
